Project DescriptionAustralias' leading pressed metal restoration experts National Pressed Metal, were contracted to repair & restore the original pressed metal ceilings of this circa 1885 historically significant building to their former grandeur. The builders brief included removal of the plasterboard ceiling that had been installed over the historic pressed metal & complete restoration & repair of the pressed metal ceiling, including the metal cornices, to original condition. Many years of neglect & a leaking roof had rusted the tin panels & many were destroyed beyond repair. Only 30% of the damaged panels were able to be restored & repaired with 70% of the damaged rust affected panels needing to be replaced. As National Pressed Metal is the contracting arm of Australian Pressed Metal, Australias' largest Pressed Metal manufacturer, most of the panels & metal cornice designs were in production. This kept costs to a minimum as only two new dies were needed to create the decorative centre panels, a 600mm x 600mm panel with the curved rail section & a 600mm x 600mm panel with a straight rail section. The Panels were named Grandiflora & are Art Nouveau style. Repair & restoration of the metal elements that were not in budget to recreate were carefully repaired, restored & reinstated. The team worked under challenging conditions working at heights from scaffolding. This project was completed efficiently by our experienced team to restore this heritage ceiling to its former splendour, ensuring the historic significance will endure for another 140 years.
